What is Digital Zoom?

Digital zoom is magnification of the picture done through software. The dots or pixels that compose the picture are expanded on each step of magnification. Digital zoom on some camcorders is very high but it is more marketing hype than beneficial. The higher digital zoom you go, the more the picture quality degrades.
